Biography

With a stage presence that commands the spotlight and a voice to match, Allison Deady is a captivating young operatic performer. Hailing from Philadelphia, Allison has an exciting season ahead of her. She will join the Opera Philadelphia chorus as a roster member. She will also make two company debuts with Park City Opera (Romeo et Juliette, Gertrude) and Buffalo Opera Unlimited (Notes on Viardot, Repoter).  

Known for her comedic roles, Allison has performed such favorites as Mrs. McClean (Susannah), Julia Child (Bon Appetit), Tisbe (la Cenerentola), Ruth (Pirates of Penzance), Hänsel (Hänsel und Gretel), Marcellina (le nozze di Figaro), and Lola (Cavalleria rusticana). 

A champion of new works, Ms. Deady has premiered numerous operas starting with Speed Dating, Tonight! by composer Michael Ching, and Sister Carrie written by Grammy-winner Robert Aldridge. She worked with Wilmington Concert Opera on their world premier of Girondines, an exciting new work about women of the French revolution. In addition, Ms. Deady workshoped & filmed Lily by Garth Baxter. She was also seen in the premiering cast of Omar, a new work by Michael Abels & Rhiannon Giddens and had a walk on role in Gregory Spears’ new show Sleepers Awake. She also recently performed Amy in the world premier of The Sister, composed by Patricia Wallinga.

A graduate of SUNY Fredonia and the University of Tennessee, Allison has honed her skill at prestigious training programs. These include the Dayton Opera Resident Artist Program, Mary Ragland Emerging Artist Program at Nashville Opera, Knoxville Opera Studio, Chautauqua Opera Company Studio Artist, the Spoleto Festival, and the Brevard Music Center. Allison trained with Music Academy International in Mezzano, Italy, and with the American Institute of Music Studies, where she placed in the Meistersinger Competition. She has also furthered her acting training at the renowned Chicago Acting Studio. She has worked with many wonderful mentors including Kathleen Clawson, W. Stephen Smith, Dean Anthony, and Maestro Steven Osgood.

Beyond the stage, Allison is a passionate advocate for the accessibility of opera and opera education. She has collaborated with educational programs bringing the beauty and emotional depth of this art form to the next generation of music lovers. She has written her own outreach show, Attend the Tale, which toured with Dayton Opera. Allison is a believer that opera should be accessible to everyone no matter their socioeconomic status and makes an effort to align herself with projects that match this vision.
